How to trim an audio recording and export a WAV clip

A useful clip keeps the intended words or music without an abrupt beginning or a long empty tail. Start with an appropriate source, make a deliberate selection and listen to the actual export before sharing.

Choose a supported recording

Load one browser-decodable MP3 or WAV, up to 25 MB and 10 minutes. Mono and stereo are supported. A WAV extension is a container label, not a guarantee that the browser supports the codec inside it; standard PCM WAV is the most predictable input. The tool does not record from your microphone, extract audio from video or upload unsupported files for conversion.

Set the range you want to keep

The waveform represents the full source. Drag the selection edges or enter start and end in seconds. To keep the part from 12.250 to 18.750 seconds, enter those two values: the selected duration is 6.500 seconds. The end must be after the start and within the recording. You can select an interval as short as 0.01 seconds, but leave enough room around speech to avoid cutting consonants.

Listen before adding fades

Preview selection plays the selected source segment, before fades. Listen for the start of a word and the tail of the final sound. Stop playback before adjusting times. A waveform helps locate broad pauses, but it does not identify words or guarantee a clean edit. Use your ears as well as the time fields.

Apply short fades deliberately

Fade-in rises linearly from silence and fade-out falls to silence. For a 6.5-second segment, a 0.05-second fade at each end is a reasonable experiment, not a universal rule. Longer fades can hide speech or change music noticeably. The two fade durations must fit within the selected segment without overlapping. Create the clip, then use the finished-clip player to hear the actual fades.

Understand the WAV trade-off

The browser decodes the input and may resample to the 48 kHz working rate. Output is 16-bit PCM WAV at the displayed decoded sample rate. This is not a lossless MP3 frame cut, and an exported WAV can be much larger than the compressed source. Mono 48 kHz / 16-bit PCM uses about 96 KB per second before the small file header; stereo doubles that. Metadata, artwork and compressed-source tags are not copied.

Verify and keep the right copy

Download the WAV, open it in your intended player or editor and check duration, channels and both ends. Confirm that the recipient accepts WAV and that its file-size limit is sufficient. If you need MP3, this release does not encode it. Keep the original recording; clear or leave the page to discard the browser workspace. Device memory and codec support can impose additional limits.
